Κυρά Σαρακοστή - Lady Lent

A custom of Clean Monday is when we make Lady Lent, an inedible dough lady.

On her head she wears a scarf, she has no mouth, her hands are folded in prayer and she has seven legs.

Her seven legs represent the seven weeks of Lent. One leg is cut off each Saturday during Lent.

In some regions of Greece, Lady Lent is made of clay, fabric filled with feathers or from paper.
