Filaxto
A Filaxto is an Orthodox amulet rectangular pendant made in Monasteries with a cross, Jesus Christ and/or the Most-Holy Theotokos. They are used to keep away evil from the person who pins them to their clothes, in bed, in the car or kept in your wallet/bag. They are a reminder of our Orthodox faith.
According to Orthodox tradition each filaxto is typically filled with matter from objects blessed for altar use (cotton soaked in Holy Anointing Oil, shavings of wax from candles burned upon a church's altar, rags from a priests vestments), parts of plants used in ceremonies (olive leaves, flowers from the Holy Friday Kouvouklion - Epitaphios, blessed palms), soil from a Saint's grave and/or include flowers from Epitaphios and cotton with Oil and Myrrh from the Church.
